DRL Series Compact Actuator Life Expectancy

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Wed Oct 05, 2016 4:29 pm

Q: I am looking to purchase a DRL series product and was curious to see what the life expectancy of this product was. I looked in the Service Life section of your catalog, but was unable to find any information on the DRL series.

A: The DRL or DRL2 (DRL II) series compact actuators are offered with two different type of ball screws, either a Rolled Ball Screw or a Ground Ball Screw. The difference between these two screws is the manufacturing process which results in a few differences. By going with the Ground ball screw option, the repetitive positioning accuracy increases. More machining is required for a ground ball screw. When it comes to the life expectancy, the Rolled ball screw has an estimated life expectancy of 2.5 million cycles or more and the Ground ball screw has a life expectancy of 2.0 million cycles. These life expectancy values take into consideration a system that is using the max transportable mass, max acceleration, max speed, max stroke, and max mounting misalignment.
