PNP or NPN type sensors

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Tue Jul 03, 2012 3:45 pm

Q: I am trying to add sensors onto my linear actuator. On your website, I see that you offer two types of sensor sets: the NPN type and PNP type. Which one should I use for my actuator?

A: In order to decide which sensor set you will be using, we have to first determine whether you are following sink logic or source logic when you connect the EZ LIMO driver to the host controller. Please use the link below to access the manual for our linear actuator products. ... 082-4E.pdf

On Pg. 17 to 20 in the manual, we show connection diagrams for both of the SINK and SOURCE logic. If you are using the SINK logic, signal power is provided to the driver and sensor is providing a path for the signal to go to ground, you will need the NPN type sensor.
If you are using SOURCE logic, signal power is provided to the sensors, and the driver will provide the path to ground through its inputs, you will need to use the PNP type sensor.
