KII Series AC Geared Motors Overheating

Postby essenceindia » Wed May 30, 2018 6:51 am

Hi !!
Good Day !!

As we have supplied below KII Series AC Geared Motors to customer for conveyor application.

5IK90GCT2-36
5IK90GCT2-7.5

Since the motors are overheating above 90 deg C, which heat passing through the conveyor roller and there is a chances to damage conveyor belt also.
As we have very good experience with this KII series, we cross checked capacitor wiring and input power supply and everything is correct only.
infact, without load condition also there is heating, we have removed from application and tried individual connection also.

Please advise how to resolve this issue ??
Also please advise, is there any heat absorbing washers / bushes would be available for avoid heat transfer to the system.

Please look into this and do the favorable immediately.

Thanking you & Best Regards,

RD

Hi Essenceindia,

What is the frequency of the single phase 220/230 VAC? Do the 5IK90GCT2-36 or 5IK90GCT2-7.5 stop operating when they overheat? What is the ambient temperature?

Hi !!

Thankyou verymuch for your reply.

The ambient temperature is around 25 Deg C only and frequency is 60 Hz.

the application is continuous rotation only, while running the temperature is raising almost 90~100 deg.C

The both (5IK90GCT2-36 or 5IK90GCT2-7.5) models are raising heat up to 90~100 deg.C, but it is not stopping.

Since the customer is using this for small conveyor application, the heat is transforming to conveying system also, which shouldn't be happens otherwise the conveyor belt gets damaged.

Please try to resolve this issue immediately without any further delay.

5IK90GCT2-36 or 5IK90GCT2-7.5 are meant for single phase 220/230 VAC 50 Hz. By operating at 60 Hz it is causing the higher temperature in the motor. The recommended motors for single phase 220/230 VAC 60 Hz is 5IK90UCT2-36 and 5IK90UCT2-7.5. The motor surface temperature may exceed 70 °C (158 °F) even under normal operating conditions.

sorry it is typing mistake, it is operating with 50 hz only. All our Indian customers uses standard by 50 Hz only.
we personally observed that it is raising temperature up to 90~100 deg. C and stand still with same condition only.
even we have taken a trials in our plant & customer place (both), but temperature is not reducing.
please let us know remedial options to proceed further in this matter.
this is most urgent, since the customer machine is under final dispatching stage to end user.

Please look into this and do the favorable immediately.

HI !!

We eagerly awaiting for your valued suggestions to proceed further in this matter.
Since input power supply is constant and atmospheric temperature is normal and capacitor wiring also did as per diagram in manual only.
we are quite confusion, where the exact problem and shocking.

For the K2 Series motors they will overheat at 100 C case temperature so if they are not tripping the thermal protector they are within specification. There isn't much else we can do via the forum but you could contact your local sales office below for further help.
