Stepper motor selection for rack and pinion system

I would like to design a system in which a stepper motor can drive a hollow column of length 30 inch, diameter 2 inch weight 5kg in vertical direction (up and down) about 4 inches using rack and pinion system in a velocity of 1cm/s. There will be an inclination of 15 degree from the horizontal angle. How to select an appropriate motor to drive such a system.r. How to calculate the power and out put torque needed for the motor. Will the size of the motor will be very high? Is it possible to reduce the torque needed by including gear system?

We ask that you try to complete the Rack & Pinion application form on this page:
and complete the positioning motion profile. We would recommend that you select a motor with an electromagnetic brake in order to prevent the load from sliding downward on the 15 deg inclination when the power is turned off. When a stepper motor is not powered, it cannot provide holding torque.

The form will calculate your required torque, load inertia, and speed.
